I am an artist and activist (see:Benjamin Von Wong) looking for ArtistResidencies interested in using the power of art and technology to communicate complex issues in simple and compelling ways.
The Ideal Art Residency would offer more than just a space and a fee. It would give the artist access to unique knowledge, tools, or materials to not just create an art piece, but rather to design a piece of art designed to solve a real-world problem.
Art has the unique ability to ignite conversations and bring diverse stakeholders together.
Ideal Attributes
Located in a major metropolitan city - with a particular interest in New York, San Francisco, and LA.
One month-long residency, with creation space and accommodations.
In-person, collaborative, and co-creative.
Themes
The themes, technologies, and techniques I am interested in exploring are (but are not limited to):
Converting and translating the most compelling environmental and climate data we have into mixed, augmented, and virtual reality data visualization stories and experiences.
Explore the potential and possibility of Bio-Based Materials (such as Mushroom Foam, Seaweed, and Hemp) as artistic building blocks and introduce them into the world of craft and creation.
To design and build concepts with local artisans and craftsmen (medium agnostic) that promote the idea of Regenerative Design and the Circular Economy.
To create Solarpunk inspired art and narratives using near-future Nano-technology materials such as Nanocrystal solar cells and Monolayer Graphene Film to promote the idea of Protopia
Representing how deeply embedded single-use plastic materials are in our ecosystem by using Generative 3d Art and 3D printing them with upcycled plastic filament.
To design and build living art installations that promote the themes of Biophilic Design, Vertical Farming, and Regenerative Agriculture
Why
I see these Artist Residencies as a form of Skill Trading and knowledge exchange with non-profit and for-profit institutions.
