Doughnut economics is a visual framework for sustainable development – shaped like a doughnut – combining the concept of planetary boundaries with the complementary concept of social boundaries.
The inner ring of the model represents the social boundaries that all of humanity should reach (such as healthcare, education, equality, food), while the outer ring represents the planetary boundaries that life depends on to survive that we need to avoid overshooting.
The visual framework was developed by Oxford economist Kate Raworth.
