Wizards and Prophets refer to the two kinds of individuals that have diametrically opposed views on how societal and ecological problems will be solved.
Coined by author and science journalist Charles C. Mann in the book The Wizard and the Prophet: Two Remarkable Scientists and Their Dueling Visions to Shape Tomorrow's World, Wizards are those that believe that the only way to support the world's growing population and affluence is the wise application of technology, while Prophets believe that we need to downscale human numbers and consumerism in order to survive.
