Regenerative Design is a process that uses Systems Thinking to create innovative, resilient, and equitable systems that integrate the needs of society and nature. Regenerative Design is an approach employed by The New Economy Movement which considers that the current economic system needs to be restructured. The theory demands that people and the planet come first and that it is human well-being rather than economic growth that should be prioritized.
The Regenerative DesignProcess is participatory, iterative, and individual to the community and environment it is applied to. This process is designed to revitalize communities, human and natural resources, and society as a whole.
Evidence of Regenerative Design can be found in the approaches to Biomimicry, Biophilic Design, and the Circular Economy. They leverage Permaculture Design and Community Development principles.
Context
I see Regenerative Design as the happy middle ground between Wizards and Prophets - where both technology and sustainable practices are required to thrive.
My friends at Denizen, the Design Science Studio, and the Buckminster Fuller institute are all working on solving this problem.
