Rachel Dutton is a #scientist specializing in microbial communities and their applications in human health and food science. She is currently a Resident at the @Astera Institute, leading a project focused on fermented foods, human health, and open science initiatives. Previously, Dutton was a Founding Scientist at Arcadia Science and served as a Professor at the University of California, San Diego, where she conducted extensive research on microbial ecosystems, particularly using cheese as a model. Her work has been featured in Wired, NPR, The New York Times, and Netflix documentaries. Dutton earned her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from @Harvard University and has contributed to developing microbial diversity models using simplified microbial communities. Her research emphasizes collaboration, open data practices, and innovative approaches to understanding microbial systems. Rachel is @Chantle Edillor's boss.
