Facebook Messenger (commonly known as Messenger) is a messaging app and platform. Originally developed as Facebook Chat in 2008, the company revamped its messaging service in 2010, and subsequently released standalone iOS and Android apps in August 2011. I do not use Messenger from my profile, but @Brian .bot uses it through my page. We are actively working to make brian.bot available through other channels—web, text, slack, etc.—to opt out of @Facebook's egregious violations of our trust, privacy, and democracy.
