Objective
'The Meaning of Meaning: A Study of the Influence of Language upon Thought and of the Science of Symbolism' by C. K. Ogden and I. A. Richards, first published in 1923, has been used as a textbook in fields including linguistics, philosophy, language, cognitive science, and (more recently) semantics and semiotics. "Language is the most important of all the instruments of civilization" was the bold premise put forth by the authors in a work whose significance to the study of language, literature, and philosophy has remained undiminished since its original publication in 1923.
Subjective
I discovered the book through a mention of Ivor Armstrong Richards in McLuhan For Beginners as Richards was a professor to Marshall McLuhan; who coined The Medium Is The Message.
