Mythos

A webhook in web development is a method of augmenting or altering the behavior of a web page or web application with custom callbacks. These callbacks may be maintained, modified, and managed by third-party users and developers who may not necessarily be affiliated with the originating website or application. The term "webhook" was coined by Jeff Lindsay in 2007 from the computer programming term hook.

Anecdote

An article in the @Airtable community titled 'Using Scripting Block to push a webhook on button click' and written days after their Automations platform launched, was what taught me how to write the script that triggers our @Zapier zaps. It took the sending delay of the @Resonance Machine down from 13 minutes to 13 seconds. Months later, I discovered @Bill French was the author after we'd hired him to develop the next iteration.
