Objective
George Carlin was a stand-up #comedian, social critic, #actor, and #author known for dark comedy and examinations of politics, language, psychology, religion, and taboo subjects. He was a frequent performer and guest host on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, and he hosted the first episode of Saturday Night Live in 1975. He recorded 14 stand-up specials for HBO, beginning with George Carlin at USC (1977). His “seven dirty words” routine led to the Supreme Court case FCC v. Pacifica Foundation (1978), which affirmed the government’s authority to regulate indecent material on public airwaves. His first solo album, Take-Offs and Put-Ons, was released in 1966.
