Shelby Hartman is a #journalist and media executive best known as the co-founder and chief executive of @DoubleBlind, a print and digital publication dedicated to reporting on psychedelics, mental health, and environmental justice between 2018 and 2025. Prior to this role, she held editorial positions at Herb as an associate editor, at LA Weekly as a columnist, and contributed to @VICE and other outlets including @Rolling Stone, Playboy, Quartz, Thrillist, and The Huffington Post. Her career also included roles in news production at CBS News and CBS Radio, as well as cultural reporting for The Times-Picayune in New Orleans and NOLA.com. In addition to print and digital journalism, she has worked in multimedia storytelling, audio editing, and social media strategy. Hartman earned a Master’s degree in Journalism from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy with a minor in Journalism from The George Washington University. She has spoken publicly on psychedelics, media ethics, and cultural reporting at institutions such as @SXSW, Horizons, and Harvard Law School. I met Shelby while working at @PrimeMind where her desk was twenty feet to my right. Working with her was as delightful as it was inspiring as I was able to enjoy her natural balancing of playful nerdry with ruthless competence.
